Growing Together: Songs I’ve Carried With Me
Music has always been an important part of my life — even though I have a terrible voice and can't sing.
Over the years, certain songs have helped me celebrate joyful moments, get through hard ones, and make sense of experiences that were difficult to put into words. They've offered comfort, perspective, hope, and sometimes just the feeling of being understood.
As a psychologist, I've come to appreciate the particular role music can play in our emotional lives. It reaches us in ways words sometimes can't — engaging the mind through lyrics, the body through rhythm, and the heart through memory and connection.
Music has helped me connect with my children, deepen conversations with clients, and care for my own mental health.
This isn't a list of my favorite songs. It's a collection of the ones I've carried through different seasons of life — and together, they reflect a lot of what matters most to me: resilience, relationships, hope, growth, and being human.
I hope you'll enjoy listening, and maybe be reminded of the songs you've carried, too. I'd love to know — what songs mean something to you?
